So excited to represent UnboundEd & CORE Learning at The Reading League conference this week with my cherished colleagues Valery Dragon. It’s amazing to foster powerful conversations about eliminating the predictability of student outcomes and structured literacy for language diversity classrooms.

With 1 in 4 children having at least one immigrant parent and 1 in 5 speaking a language other than English at home, educators face a rich tapestry of cultures and backgrounds.🔍 Insights:Cultural intelligence (CQ) is essential for teachers to understand and respond to the unique needs of diverse learners.High-CQ teachers foster trust with parents from different cultural backgrounds and impart valuable cross-cultural strategies.Observing how communication styles vary and adapting teaching methods accordingly creates inclusive environments. 🏫 👨🏫👩🏫👀Moreover, building strong partnerships with parents is essential. By acknowledging and respecting cultural norms, using clear and simple language, and encouraging open communication, teachers bridge the gap between home and school, ensuring the success of every student.🌟 Cultural intelligence isn't just a professional asset; it's a cornerstone of effective education in our increasingly diverse world. Hats off to teachers making classrooms more welcoming and accessible! #CulturalIntelligence #Education #DiversityandInclusion 🎓

Join us next week as we explore how to promote children’s phonemic awareness, from explicit teaching practices to creating an environment where language development is fostered and celebrated. https://bit.ly/3UBjZYT

📚 Embracing Diversity in Education: The Urgent Need to Prioritize Emergent Bilingual/Multilingual Learners in Reading Policies 🌍The Science of Reading has emerged as a beacon of hope in the evolving education landscape, promising more effective teaching strategies and improved literacy outcomes. However, as we navigate this promising terrain, our strategies must be inclusive and considerate of our classrooms' diverse tapestry of learners. One group that requires our undivided attention is Emergent Bilingual/Multilingual Learners (EB/ML). These learners bring a wealth of cultural and linguistic diversity to our classrooms, enriching the learning experience. Yet, their unique needs are often relegated to the margins of educational policies and practices, treated as an afterthought rather than a central concern. It's time for a shift in perspective. Policies surrounding the Science of Reading must be designed with EB/ML learners at their core. This means developing literacy programs that are not only research-based but also culturally and linguistically responsive. It means recognizing the linguistic assets these learners bring to their education and leveraging them to support their literacy development.By centering our policies around the unique needs of EB/ML learners, we uphold the principles of equity and inclusion and enrich our educational systems. These learners offer perspectives that, when acknowledged and embraced, can lead to more innovative and effective teaching practices for all students.Let's commit to making EB/ML learners an integral part of our agenda, ensuring that our educational policies reflect the diversity and potential of all students. Together, we can create a more inclusive, effective, and enriching learning environment for everyone.#EducationPolicy #ScienceOfReading #MultilingualLearners #InclusiveEducation #LiteracyDevelopment #DraLizy #idraedu
