Ronald L Registered User Thread OP | Discussion The weather is getting nicer and nicer. I need a floatplane for the summer season! Two attempts at float flying didn't end too well in the last years, but I keep trying. I was undecided between a Puddle Twin, a SlowBoat or own designs for a Douglas Dolphin, or a Macchi M33. What do you think about my SketchUp drawings for a M33? I'm designing for 40" wing span, built up from 6mm Depron (or similar). It's got to be light, slow, and maneuverable, since the only suitable water flying site is surrounded by trees. Ronald Video of the water maiden:

jonesymj Slopeosapien | If plans were available I'd be cutting foam already... That's what I think! |

Ronald L Registered User Thread OP | The fuselage structure is evolving. There is a keel which runs from the front back a bit further than the step. A floor leaves room for the electronics and batteries. The rear end is simple to do, since it runs straight from the step to the tail. At the moment I´m wondering, if I should use a flat wing with a CF rod for reinforcement or something like a KFm2. What do you guys think? Ronald ImagesView all Images in thread

jeffsch Jer. 29:11 | Looking good. If you want it to fly slow, what about a single-thickness, undercambered wing? I've been very happy with the flying characteristics of my 34" wingspan Sea BB. rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=954868 |

sirius80 Slopin Eh! | Please dont post plans...the last thing i need is another plane on the list of "Want but have no time!"....love it! Oh....and I vote for the KFm2 foil |

jonesymj Slopeosapien | Glad I could be some encouragement! I'd go with the KF of some sort, too. While U/C wings are great (I love my 26" Sea BB too) they often suffer from "one speed" syndrome. I'll admit the KF probably won't go quite as slow, but it'll have a greater overall speed range... My 2 cents! |

springer treefinder | I have built a good number of my planes with KFM5a wings (slightly cambered wing with 40% bottom step.) The wings are stiffer than single surface UC and flight characteristics are between the floaty UC and faster KFM.2. The thing that got me into them is the wing looks more realistic (top surface airfoil, step only visible from bottom - 20 feet up ) but are still easy build KFM.. I sand off the step at tips to create a pretty realistic look (at least I try to...) You might consider it since you are doing a beautiful ly curved classic design. ImagesView all Images in thread

Oh....and I vote for the KFm2 foil Sorry about that I'm also leaning towards an KFm2. I never tried a KFm airfoil before. Would be interesting to do so. Plan preview below. Not very well arranged, and some parts still missing. Especially the motor gondola and battery hatch. ImagesView all Images in thread

sirius80 Slopin Eh! | I was a non KF believer till i built my Saab using a 50% KFm2 foil. Tracks like its on rails, very wide flight envolope and has quicky become my favorite go to model. ImagesView all Images in thread

Ronald L Registered User Thread OP | That's a great looking Saab! The weather is supposed to be bad in the weekend. So there's a chance that first parts will be cut and trial fitted |

Ronald L Registered User Thread OP | By chance I found some nice white foam board in a store I never went to before. Only downside was, they only had 4mm and 7mm thicknesses, so not the usual 6mm and 3mm. But I got 4 sq.m. of each anyhow. I traced the keel, internal floor and formers on the 7mm stuff and voila, here is a first glimpse at the structure. ImagesView all Images in thread
